Starting your online business can be a scary endeavor. You may have a lot of fear starting your online business because it can be very overwhelming navigating your way through the oodles of information and advice about getting things off the ground. I’ve totally been there. But fear does not serve you.
If you want to have your own business and start living life on your own terms then you have to breakdown your barriers. Here are 6 reasons you may fear starting your online business and how to overcome them.
1. You fear starting your online business because you don’t have much money.
Money is the most crippling fear around for most of us. We fear that there is never enough, we fear what will happen if we run out and we fear not being able to meet our financial commitments. Two things. Firstly, where there is a will there is a way and you place your money where your priorities are. The costs of starting an online business are not only minimal but even if you have $0 to your name if I asked you to give me 5 ways that you could go out and make money right now, I’m positive you could. Secondly, you are always okay right? Has there truly ever been a time in your life where a lack of money was the end of your world as you know it? Considering you’re reading this post, I guess not. You have enough money.
2. You fear starting your online business because you “don’t know enough.”
Real talk. You’re always going to be learning. This is just a part of life. There is always going to be something new that you need to learn. But the reality is that you know more information than someone else about something. Here’s what I mean by that…I know almost nothing about yoga. So if you know how to properly do the downward dog pose, then you know more than me about yoga. You can teach me something. We all start somewhere. By teaching others, we learn more deeply and thoroughly ourselves. You know enough, so don’t let this fear block you from serving others.
3. You fear starting your online business because you don’t want to do it wrong.
There are a million ways to go about building an online business. People have had success using many different methods. You can’t mess this up. Now that you’ve joined the online entrepreneur party realize that this is a journey and you’re in for a wild ride. But this is the beauty of evolution. If you start something today and realize it’s not exactly what you want a month from now, then guess what – you created it and you can change it. Easy!
4. You fear starting your online business because you are afraid of being ‘seen.’
Yep, fear of being visible is a real thing. But it’s mostly because you fear criticism which means you probably also fear not being good enough to do this work. Ha! You see how this fear thing is a slippery slope. Sometimes you just have to rip the band-aid. God gave you gifts for a reason and if you don’t tell anyone about those gifts then what was the point in Him even giving them to you? Put yourself out there. You are way stronger than the worst thing that could happen to you.
5. You fear starting your online business because you are afraid of NOT being ‘seen.’
What if you put your work out there and nobody responds? What if no-one signs up for your products or services? Well, it’s happened to all of us. I’ve launched a new product several times to the sound of crickets. If you put yourself out there and no-one bites then keep going. If you launch a new course and no-one signs up then head back to the drawing board, revise and try again. Let me remind you now that this is a journey. That means, ups and downs and everything in between.
6. You fear starting your online business because you worry about running out of time.
The amount of anxiety that I’ve felt over the years as a result of thinking everything has to be done in a rush is crazy. There are no time limits here. Building a brand and business is a fun and holistic experience. There is no rush and there are no time constraints other than those that we place on ourselves. I know you may be thinking of starting a business because money is tight and you want to experience financial freedom, and you will. But for right now take that stress off your brand-new business to produce results immediately. Everything is happening in divine timing. Everything is working out for your exactly as it should.
Fear can be a total drag. But it doesn’t have to hold you hostage. Shake it off, know that you are supported and keep putting one foot in front of the other. You got this.
