Having your own personally-branded coaching business can be one of the most rewarding and equally as confusing career paths. As a coach you are going to be faced with a range of different experiences and clients that will influence your desires and the way you work. At one point in my coaching business I began to feel like maybe I was a ‘flake’ for shifting lanes until I realized that it’s good to evolve as a coach.
One thing you must understand about your life as an online coach is that not only do you evolve but so do the tools that you use to keep your business booming.
So if you’ve been feeling a little ‘flaky’ for changing things up then here are 3 encouraging reasons why it’s good to evolve as a coach online.
1. Because trends come and go.
As I said, things move along pretty quickly in the digital age. Just as you’re getting a grasp on how to broadcast effectively on Periscope everybody has moved across to Facebook live. And just as you’ve gotten the hang of Snapchat, here comes Instagram with their stories feature. If you plan on staying relevant in the online world then it’s totally expected that you may roll with the changes and evolve alongside the technology that you use.
2. Because your students will evolve.
This isn’t to say that you change your whole business model as your clients grow, after all some of your clients will outgrow your service (and I personally believe that’s a good thing)! What I really mean here is that the needs of your audience may evolve according to societal changes. Imagine that you’re a dating coach back before apps like Tinder and Bumble were popular. See how your teachings may change to adapt to your students? Pay special attention to how your clients needs change so you can support them in the most relevant way possible.
3. Because it captures people’s attention.
Just like Apple is always evolving, refining and coming out with new and exciting products, so can you! I’m not saying to force yourself to create something new if it doesn’t feel true for you. But don’t be afraid of a little evolution in the name of growth. If you convey to your audience that the changes happening in your business really have the best interest of everyone in mind then you’ll be sure to retain interest and move in a direction that more closely aligns with your desires and goals, all while keeping your audience on their toes!
4. Because you are always learning.
Or at least you should be! Building an engaging and successful business is no small task and if you are a dedicated coach then you are likely going to make it a priority to always be learning. I’m currently reading multiple books about spirituality, personal branding and storytelling as I desire to be able to serve my clients more fully. As you learn not only from books but also from your experiences you’ll probably come to new realizations of what’s important to you and what you want to create. In this case it’s good to evolve as a coach because it means that you’re becoming even better at your craft…and who can knock that?!
